This book is intended primarily as a guide to paddleboats to be found in various parts of Australia, more than 130 in all, for those people who may see or travel on them, and thus gain a better knowledge of these fascinating boats. It includes all the paddleboats that I am aware of presently operating public excursions and cruises on rivers, lakes and harbours around Australia, as well as privately owned boats, and vintage boats that have been restored for static public display.
The majority of paddleboats are to be found on the Murray River, and over recent years more than thirty new boats have been built and launched into the river, while a further twenty boats have undergone changes in either name or appearance. In addition, there are paddleboats to be found in various other locations around the country, including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Ballarat and Longreach. This is the first time all these boats have been brought together in a single book.
There is a section at the end devoted to older boats that are currently undergoing restoration as well as boats currently under construction but some way from completion, and a listing of the locations where the various boats may be seen.
Each boat is fully illustrated, the majority of the photographs having been taken in the past two years.
